Sustainability initiatives

We work around the clock
to solve real business problems

Working towards carbon neutrality is more than a promise.

It’s a way of life. At APAR, we’re not just tackling climate change with company-wide action, but also setting a new standard with products that address sustainability concerns. Explore how our divisions are addressing sustainability.

90,490 tCO2e GHG emission during FY 2021-22
Due to various measures taken by APAR, the absolute GHG emission in FY 21-22 reduced by 3%, despite overall increase in production.
We have been working consistently towards lowering our carbon footprint through various initiatives. We follow the GHG Protocol for measuring our GHG emission. Currently we are measuring, managing and disclosing our scope 1 and scope 2 emissions.
We have implementation several GHG reduction projects and many more are under implementation. Some of the examples are :
(1)Focus on electrification (shifting away from fossil-fuel based energy)
(2)Increasing share of RE (Renewable Energy) through roof-top solar installations. In addition, work on procurement of wind-solar hybrid energy is at advanced stage.
(3)Increasing productivity using various measures such as initiation of Industry 4.0, Six Sigma etc.
(4)Initiation of detailed energy audit – we had identified 80 projects for GHG emission reduction since Apr 2021, and most of these projects have now been implemented. In order to identify more potential high impact projects, we have initiated detailed Energy Audit at few of our facilities.
APAR has taken one more step towards augmenting green energy by successfully commissioning a wind-solar hybrid (3.30 MW wind-turbine and 2.80 MWp of solar energy) project in partnership with a leading supplier on 18th June 2023. This project is expected to generate approx. 15 million units annually(over 10% of our annual electricity consumption), and help in GHG emission reduction of over 10,000 tCO2e per year.
Dec 2022: APAR Industries Limited has furthered its commitment to environmental transparency by disclosing its environmental impact through CDP, a global non-profit organization that runs the world’s leading environmental disclosure platform.

We had opted for voluntary disclosure of climate related emissions to CDP (Carbon Disclosure Projects), and the first ever ORS submission was completed in July 2022 (as per the due date deadline).

Disclosing data around environmental impact is now a business norm. More than 680 financial institutions with US$130 trillion in assets and 280 purchasing organizations representing US$6.4 trillion in procurement spend requested environmental data from companies through CDP. A record 18,700+ companies responded in 2022.

By disclosing through CDP, APAR is prepared to respond to the increasing demand for environmental transparency from financial institutions, customers and policymakers. In its disclosure, APAR shared information on climate related risks and opportunities, energy saving and GHG emission reduction initiatives and Scope-1 and Scope-2 emissions.

Based upon our disclosure, CDP has completed the evaluation and provided a score of ‘B’ to APAR.
May 2022: CRISIL had started ESG rating of top Indian Companies in 2021. This years’ rating was done for 586 top Indian Companies, and the report was released on 19th May 2022.

APAR’s name has found a place in the CRISIL ESG rating this year, and the score is as follows:

• APAR received an ESG score of 59, which is above the overall Industrial average score of 54.

• The scores in individual sections are provided in the picture.

As a responsible corporate, we are aware of the risks that climate change presents to our business, society and the planet, and the necessity to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions across our value chains for a greener future.

As we proactively implement mitigation measures to address our emissions, we recognize that the bulk of our emissions stem from our value chains. Thus, to achieve this ambitious target of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, we engage our stakeholders including our suppliers to manage and reduce GHG emissions beyond our factory.

Towards the above, APAR has started engaging with its vendor partners through
a)series of regular online webinars,
b)sharing and implementing the APAR’s Supplier Code of Conduct, and
c)assessing the readiness of vendor partners on Environmental and Social parameters.

We will keep on working with vendor partners to collectively do our bit to tackle climate change, and secure a liveable planet for future generations.

APAR is 1st Company in India to release Environment Product Declaration and Certification (EDP) for AL59 Conductors – a Low Carbon Emission Products.

As the world’s largest aluminium and alloy manufacturer, APAR is committed to step up and deliver best quality product with excellent customer services. With the growing global environmental issues, we have taken an initiative to address carbon emissions of our conductors. Towards this we have successfully published “Environment Product Declarations” on “EPD HUB” for AL 59 Conductors.

An Environmental Product Declaration, or EPD, is a document which transparently communicates the carbon emission through entire life cycle of a product. The report covers carbon footprint computation, verification, validation and certification over its lifetime by EPD Hub on of AL 59 conductor as per EN 15804 +A 2 ISO 14025 ISO 21930 standards.
