APAR has installed 5.34 MWp of roof-top solar capacity and another 1.2 MWp capacity is under implementation. In addition, we have commissioned a wind-solar hybrid (3.30 MW wind-turbine and 2.80 MWp of solar energy) project in partnership with a leading supplier, which is providing approx. 13.5 million KWh of renewable energy annually. We will be commissioning another two similar capacity wind-solar hybrid projects by June 2025. We expect our share of renewable energy to go up to 25% for the year 2025-26. This will enable a saving of approx. 34,000 tCO2e per annum at current grid emission factor.

APAR has been awarded a ‘B’ score in its climate related full-version disclosure by CDP. CDP is a global non-profit organization that runs the world’s leading environmental disclosure platform. CDP has 4 categories and 9 tier of scoring structure, namely: Leadership category (A, A-); Management category (B, B-); Awareness category (C, C-); Disclosure category (D, D-); and Fail (F).

APAR’s data will be added to the most comprehensive inventory of self-reported environmental data in the world – helping to drive action through greater transparency. By disclosing through CDP, APAR is prepared to respond to the increasing demand for environmental transparency from financial institutions, customers and policymakers. In its disclosure, APAR shared information on climate related risks and opportunities, energy saving and GHG emission reduction initiatives and Scope-1, Scope-2 and Scope-3 emissions.

APAR has been upgraded to Silver Status on the renowned sustainability rating platform EcoVadis, which is an evidence-based online platform, providing supplier sustainability ratings and allowing companies to assess the ESG performance of their global suppliers.
EcoVadis awards Silver medal status to top 25% companies which are assessed.
This recognition highlights APAR’s ongoing efforts towards sustainable business practices and the company’s efforts to foster positive environmental and social changes. ‘We are delighted to attain Silver Status on the EcoVadis platform. It is a testament to our ongoing commitment to long-term sustainable growth,’ said Mr. Kushal Desai, Chairman and Managing Director at APAR. ‘ESG principles are embedded in our vision as we recognize the vital role businesses play in creating a more sustainable future.’
It is to be noted that APAR had recently published its ESG report for FY 2022-23 on its website, which can be accessed at https://apar.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/APAR_ESG_Report_FY_2022_23.pdf.
In addition to the EcoVadis framework assessment, APAR had also made voluntary disclosure of its full-version Climate related emissions to CDP for the year ending 31st March 2023, and published its first BRSR (Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report) disclosure as part of its Annual Report FY 2022-23.
We had engaged with the leading institutes and completed the energy audits at three plants (Conductor plants in Athola & Rakholi, and Cable plant in Khatalwada). 72 GHG reduction projects have been identified as a result of these detailed energy audits, with a potential to save approx. 8,500 tCO2e GHG emissions per year. The main objective of energy audits are as follows:
We have implementation several GHG reduction projects and many more are under implementation. Some of the examples are :
(1) Identify energy efficiency opportunities (GHG reduction projects)
(2) Reduce energy costs
(3) Enhance sustainability – reduce environment impact of the manufacturing process
(4) Optimize equipment and systems
(5) Risk mitigation
(6) Benchmarking (industry benchmark & best practices)
(7) Safety and compliance
These projects are taken up for implementation during FY 2023-24.
APAR has prepared and published its 3rd ESG report (FY 2022-23) on the web-site (Link to access ESG report for FY 2022-23: https://apar.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/APAR_ESG_Report_FY_2022_23.pdf)
The ESG Report is prepared based on the concept of Capitals Creation framework. We are driven by our purpose of manufacturing products that make the world Better, Greener and Smarter. This approach will provide a clearer roadmap of value creation to our stakeholders.
The following six Capitals are discussed:
  • (1) Financial Capital
  • (2) Manufacturing Capital
  • (3) Intellectual Capital
  • (4) Natural Capital
  • (5) Human Capital, and
  • (6) Social Capital
90,490 tCO2e GHG emission during FY 2021-22
Due to various measures taken by APAR, the absolute GHG emission in FY 21-22 reduced by 3%, despite overall increase in production.
We have been working consistently towards lowering our carbon footprint through various initiatives. We follow the GHG Protocol for measuring our GHG emission. Currently we are measuring, managing and disclosing our scope 1 and scope 2 emissions.
We have implementation several GHG reduction projects and many more are under implementation. Some of the examples are :
(1) Focus on electrification (shifting away from fossil-fuel based energy)
(2) Increasing share of RE (Renewable Energy) through roof-top solar installations. In addition, work on procurement of wind-solar hybrid energy is at advanced stage.
(3) Increasing productivity using various measures such as initiation of Industry 4.0, Six Sigma etc.
(4) Initiation of detailed energy audit – we had identified 80 projects for GHG emission reduction since Apr 2021, and most of these projects have now been implemented. In order to identify more potential high impact projects, we have initiated detailed Energy Audit at few of our facilities.

As a responsible corporate, we are aware of the risks that climate change presents to our business, society and the planet, and the necessity to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions across our value chains for a greener future.

As we proactively implement mitigation measures to address our emissions, we recognize that the bulk of our emissions stem from our value chains. Thus, to achieve this ambitious target of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, we engage our stakeholders including our suppliers to manage and reduce GHG emissions beyond our factory.

Towards the above, APAR has started engaging with its vendor partners through
a)series of regular online webinars,
b)sharing and implementing the APAR’s Supplier Code of Conduct, and
c)assessing the readiness of vendor partners on Environmental and Social parameters.

We will keep on working with vendor partners to collectively do our bit to tackle climate change, and secure a liveable planet for future generations.
