Product Description

APAR’s Aluminium Conductor Steel Supported (ACSS) is an advanced High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductor designed to deliver increased transmission capacity, superior thermal performance, and enhanced reliability for modern power networks. Unlike conventional ACSR conductors, ACSS utilizes fully annealed aluminium strands supported by a high-strength steel core that carries most or all of the mechanical load.

This unique construction enables operation at significantly higher temperatures while maintaining excellent mechanical integrity and controlled sag characteristics. ACSS conductors are widely used for transmission line uprating, grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and capacity enhancement projects where higher ampacity is required without major infrastructure modifications.

Key Advantages

  • High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductor technology
  • Continuous operating temperature capability up to 200°C
  • Significantly higher operating temperature capability than conventional ACSR
  • Increased power transfer capacity on existing transmission lines
  • Excellent sag performance at elevated temperatures
  • Steel core carries most of the mechanical load for enhanced reliability
  • Reduced need for new transmission corridors and infrastructure expansion
  • Available with galvanized, aluminium-clad, or mischmetal alloy-coated steel cores
  • Excellent corrosion protection options for diverse environmental conditions
  • Long service life and low maintenance requirements
  • Ideal for transmission line uprating and grid modernization projects

Standards & Quality

APAR’s ACSS conductors are manufactured and tested in accordance with internationally recognized standards to ensure superior electrical, thermal, and mechanical performance.

Each conductor is manufactured through very stringent quality standards, with rigorous testing at every stage including type testing and validation.

Construction & Material

ACSS conductors consist of one or more layers of fully annealed Aluminium 1350-O wires concentrically stranded around a central steel core.

The steel core carries most or all of the mechanical load of the conductor, allowing the aluminium strands to operate under reduced mechanical stress. The core may be manufactured using galvanized steel, aluminium-clad steel, or Zinc-5% Aluminium-Mischmetal alloy-coated steel wires depending on environmental and performance requirements.

This design enables high-temperature operation while maintaining conductor strength, reliability, and low sag performance.
