APAR’s turnkey project energises Goa with advanced 96F OPGW conductoring

APAR’s turnkey project energises Goa with advanced 96F OPGW conductoring - Case Study #3
Goa’s rapid growth and development demand a robust, reliable power infrastructure. At APAR, we are proud to announce the successful completion of the Turnkey MSETCL – GED Conductoring project, featuring the installation of a high-capacity 96-fibre Optical Ground Wire (96F OPGW) line. This milestone strengthens Goa’s energy backbone and brings cutting-edge fibre optic technology to the region, enabling superior data connectivity and grid protection.
Connecting diverse and challenging terrains across India, we have successfully supplied over 63,000 KM of in High-Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductors. Our expertise in HTLS conductor technology enables us to deliver innovative solutions for enhancing power transmission infrastructure. With this vast deployment, APAR has ~50% market share in re-conducting projects across India. A recent project that exemplifies our focus on setting new benchmarks is the 400kV Kalwa-Padgha line upgrade, a critical artery in Mumbai’s power network, executed in collaboration with Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL).
Project Overview
- Project: 220kv Amona-Mumewadi (96F link), MTCIL Project
- Scope: Installation of 96F OPGW Line
- Location: Tillari, Dodamarg, Maharashtra & Amona, Goa
- Client: Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) & Goa Electricity Department (GED)
What Makes This Project Special?
High-Capacity 96F OPGW Line for Enhanced Communication
- This high-strength cable supports a large number of optical fibres, enabling high-speed, long-distance data transmission critical for grid automation, real-time monitoring, and control.
- The dual-layer design with steel tubes stranded with hi-strain steel wires ensures mechanical robustness and excellent fault current rating, making it ideal for super-high-voltage power lines.
Overcoming Unique Challenges
- Difficult Terrain:The route passed through hilly forests and river crossings, requiring innovative engineering and safety measures.
- Weather Conditions: Heavy monsoon rains and strong winds tested our team’s resilience, especially during stringing and installation.
- Live Line Work: Much of the work was performed on live lines, demanding meticulous planning and execution to ensure safety and minimise downtime.
Technical Excellence: APAR’s OPGW Solutions
- Fiber Counts: Up to 96 fibres for high-capacity communication needs.
- Construction: Stainless steel and aluminium clad steel tubes available in single or dual-layer designs.
- Custom Designs: Engineered for challenging conditions such as snow-bound areas, high altitudes, heavy winds, river crossings, and low sag requirements.
Project Impact
- Improved Grid Connectivity: Enhanced real-time data communication between substations and grid control centres via the 96F OPGW line.
- Increased Reliability: The use of high-strength OPGW cables ensures long-term stability and safety for Goa’s power infrastructure.
- Support for Growth: This upgrade empowers Goa’s homes, businesses, and industries with a more robust and future-ready power supply.
- Proven Track Record: Over 6,000 km of OPGW supplied, 30+ type-tested designs, and installations ranging from 33kV to 800kV in India and abroad.
Looking Ahead
The successful completion of the 96F OPGW Line project marks a significant step forward for Goa’s power infrastructure. At APAR, we remain committed to delivering innovative, reliable, and sustainable solutions that power progress across India and beyond.
