APAR Powers Kumbh Mela: Successful 220kV Reconductoring Project in Uttar Pradesh

The Maha Kumbh: Humanity’s Largest Gathering, the Timeless Confluence of Faith, Civilization, and Collective Progress

Envision the Maha Kumbh Mela not merely as a pilgrimage, but as a living prototype for a future founded on enduring principles. This extraordinary gathering reflects India’s influence on the world stage, not through force, but through the power of shared values and selfless service. Beyond its spiritual essence, the Mela offers profound insights into fostering equitable development, responsibly managing resources, and orchestrating cooperative action on a massive scale. Its enduring legacy reminds us that true progress is measured not by economic gain, but by the positive transformation of human awareness, providing timeless wisdom applicable to the complex challenges of our era.

The Kumbh Mela, a significant spiritual gathering held every 12 years rotating among four locations: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain, while the Maha Kumbh Mela occurs every 12 years specifically at Prayagraj. The Maha Kumbh in 2025 is especially significant because it aligns with celestial configurations that occur once in 144 years. The 2025 event, running from January 13 to February 26, is projected to generate revenues between ₹2 lakh crore and ₹4.5 lakh crore. This revenue is driven by an anticipated 400 to 450 million visitors spending on transportation, accommodations, food, retail, and various services. The event is expected to boost India’s GDP by approximately 1%, with significant benefits for sectors like travel, hospitality, and infrastructure.

The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated 6,990 crore toward infrastructure development, not only to support the Mela but also to drive local economic growth. Officials estimate that the event will generate 25,000 crore in direct revenue and have a 2 lakh crore overall impact on the state’s economy. A key investment—400 crore—has been earmarked to ensure 24/7 electricity for over 40 crore devotees, including the construction of 182 km of high-tension lines and 1,405 km of low-tension lines. The fairgrounds alone are illuminated with over 40,000 rechargeable bulbs, ensuring seamless operations day and night.

APAR’s contributions to historic development

In today’s world, reliable electricity isn’t just a necessity—it’s a national imperative. At APAR, we’re not just keeping up; we’re setting new benchmarks with innovative solutions reshaping the energy sector. As the world’s largest aluminium and alloy conductor manufacturer and India’s top exporter, our mission is clear: to contribute to society by supporting the modern human necessity of reliable energy infrastructure. Our goal is redefining how energy is transmitted, making it more efficient, reliable, and future-ready.

APAR set a world record, completing 6,265 km of live-line OPGW installation in just one year, and an impressive 800 ckm of ACCC reconductoring in just 7.5 months.

APAR’s Conductors Business delivered comprehensive turnkey solutions, from designing and manufacturing to upgrading and testing conductors.

From powering mega-events like the Mela to strengthening national grids, APAR is at the forefront of India’s energy transformation—ensuring that wherever power is needed, we’re there to deliver. In line with this commitment, we recently completed a critical reconductoring project for the Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL), which focused on enhancing the 220kV Prayagraj Cantt – Rewa road substation line. This project involved installing approximately 10 kilometers of High-Temperature Low-Sag (HTLS) conductor, a crucial upgrade that was essential to be finalized before the Maha Kumbh Mela, demonstrating our ability to meet urgent energy demands while contributing to the broader goals of sustainable and reliable power infrastructure in India.

Of course, no project is without its hurdles. This one included:

  • River Crossing: Navigating a 900-meter river crossing.
  • Live Line Undercrossing: Expertly managing undercrossing 133kV and 66kV live lines.
  • Urban Congestion: Tackling logistical challenges in densely populated areas.

By upgrading infrastructure and bolstering regional energy support, especially during critical events, we’re ensuring a more reliable and sustainable energy future for everyone.
